Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding class is held every other month on a Tuesday evening.  During class, we explore the many benefits offered to both mom and baby through breastfeeding.  We discuss the anatomy of the breast, how milk is made, and the different types of milk.  We also review transfer of milk, what to expect while breastfeeding, and how to tell if the baby is getting enough. We even practice latching a baby and holding the baby while nursing.  (A doll with a crochet breast is used for hands on practice of the different positions for breastfeeding.) You will learn the proper interventions for breastfeeding complications such as sore nipples, mastitis, low milk supply, blisters, and flat or inverted nipples.  We also discuss breast pumping, storing milk, and the importance of hand expression of breast milk.

Recommended to be taken prior to your due date. Pre-registration is required.
